TOOTH FILLING ROOT CANAL PROCEDURES LONDON LEICESTER BRIGHTON BUDAPEST

We understand the importance of getting patients out of pain promptly. They are also committed to answering all of your questions and concerns before proceeding with treatment.

The time you walk through the door, you find that our doctors and their team make every effort to put you at ease. London Endodontic Group is dedicated to providing the highest level of professional care that is as painless and comfortable as possible.

If your tooth ache requires a root canal, you can expect the doctors to complete treatment in one or two visits. Root canal treatment involves the following steps.

1) London dental implants will examine the tooth and determine if there is a need for treatment. If treatment is needed, the doctor will numb your tooth and place a small protective sheet called a “dental dam” over the area for your comfort. The dental dam isolates the tooth, keeps it clean and free of saliva during the procedure, and keeps the water and medications used in the root canal out of your mouth.

2) Tooth decay (caries) is removed and an opening in the crown of the tooth is made to access the pulp. Very small instruments are used to clean the pulp from the pulp chamber and root canals and to shape the space for filling.

3)The space is cleaned and shaped, London dental implants will fill the root canals with a biocompatible material, usually a rubber-like material called “gutta-percha”, or with another material called Resilon, a synthetic polymer that mimics gutta-percha. The gutta-percha is placed with an adhesive cement to ensure complete sealing of the root canals. In most cases, a temporary filling is placed to close the opening. Your general dentist will remove the temporary filling at the time when they permanently restore the tooth (see below).

4) Endodontic treatment is completed with us, you will immediately return to your general dentist to have a crown or other restoration placed on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function.

Dental Fillings: The Procedure

Preventative dental hygiene checkups, or dental emergency visits prompted by a toothache, your dentist evaluates your teeth, gums and supporting bone structure. He identifies the number of tooth surfaces affected by decay or damage, and then prepares the tooth and necessary surrounding areas in order to restore the damaged area. The decay or damage is removed with a dental hand-piece or laser, and the area is cleansed to remove bacteria or debris before the restoration is completed.

Taking the first step in performing a composite filling procedure involves isolation of the tooth. Tooth isolation is critical in a composite restoration, because it prevents moisture from interfering with the bonding process. The bonding procedure requires the placement of various adhesives followed by the composite material, which is then hardened with a special bonding light. The completed composite restoration is both functional and natural looking.

Dental Filling Costs Information and Advice

All Composite fillings are usually more expensive than traditional amalgam fillings because they require a more sophisticated process, more expensive materials and additional office equipment. Composite materials offer an esthetic alternative to traditional amalgam materials. As such, people who have previously received amalgam fillings often return to their dentist to have them replaced with composite fillings.

The cost of dental fillings depends on a variety of factors, including:

•The dentist who performs the procedure.

•The location where it is performed.

•The type of dental insurance you have. As mentioned above, dental insurance typically does not cover the additional costs associated with composite fillings.

•The number of tooth surfaces that need filling. For example, one tooth may have only one surface affected by decay or damage, while another tooth may have one or all surfaces affected by decay or damage.

On average, amalgam fillings are expected to last approximately 12 years, while composite fillings are expected to last five to seven years. This of course is dependent on your unique considerations, the care with which you treat your oral hygiene and your commitment to continued dental visits.

Tooth Decay Information and Advice

Tooth decay is a degenerative oral health condition that results from the breakdown of tooth enamel. The destruction of tooth structure associated with decay can lead to the development of holes in the teeth, more commonly referred to as cavities.

What Causes Tooth Decay?

Tooth decay is often caused as result of dietary choices and oral hygiene practices.

Many of the foods that we eat contain sugars and starches. When these foods are left on the teeth, plaque (the sticky substance that forms on teeth) combines with the bacteria that live in the mouth. This combination produces acids that damage the tooth enamel causing tooth decay.

What Role Does Diet and Nutrition Play in Tooth Decay?

Maintaining a healthy diet with proper nutrition is essential in the promotion of good oral hygiene and avoidance of tooth decay. Foods and drinks that are high in sugars are more prone to form the acid that attacks the tooth enamel resulting in decay. Limiting foods and drinks that are high in sugar and carbonation can help to prevent tooth decay and improve oral hygiene.

How is Tooth Decay Treated?

If decay is detected before it reaches the nerve of the tooth, a dentist can restore the tooth by removing the decay and replacing it with a dental filling. If tooth decay is left untreated and reaches the nerve, a root canal procedure would more than likely be needed to save the tooth.

Does Decay Affect Children and Adults?

Even though tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease, everyone is at risk for tooth decay. We all have bacteria in our mouth and are therefore susceptible to the acids that break down enamel and open the door to decay.

Should Baby Teeth be Treated for Tooth Decay?

Yes! Many parents are not aware of the importance of baby teeth (primary teeth). This misconception comes from the fact that baby teeth are temporary. Many people therefore assume that the primary teeth are not as important as the permanent teeth.

Baby teeth serve important purposes such as helping children chew naturally and speak normally and clearly. Baby teeth are also important for providing a place for permanent teeth to erupt or grow into properly. If baby teeth are mistreated, it can have a detrimental effect on long-term oral health.

Tooth Decay Prevention

Tooth decay affects millions of people, but it can be easily prevented. The best ways to prevent tooth decay are:

•Brush at least twice a day with a toothpaste containing fluoride.
•Floss daily to remove food debris from in between the teeth.
•Maintain a healthy diet of nutritious foods.
•Avoid snacks and drinks that are high in sugar.
•Visit your dentist for regular check ups and dental cleanings.
•Use an antimicrobial mouth rinse to help reduce plaque.
•Have dental sealants (a protective coating) placed on the biting surfaces of the back teeth.
