Invisalign London

Invisalign is an orthodontic device used to discreetly straighten misaligned and gapped teeth. Invisalign uses invisible aligners which have to be changed every two weeks until treatment is completed. Before the treatment, your dentist uses  Invisalign  3D technology to design aligners and determine the shape of the teeth.

The clear braces used during Invisalign treatment can correct problems with the bite, crooked teeth, and close gapped teeth. However, people with severe misalignments cannot straighten their teeth with Invisalign, but they can opt for any of the traditional braces.

Why you should choose Invisalign

Research carried out by some dental technicians, and the reports from patients show that Invisalign has the following benefits.

  • They are transparent and removable:

Invisalign aligners are transparent, and they are not easily noticed when you speak. With Invisalign, people will hardly notice you are straightening your teeth. The aligners can also be easily removed at any time of the day, although you need to wear them for at least twenty-two hours every day for the treatment to be fast and effective.

  • They provide a better chance of maintaining oral health.

Food cannot get stuck onto any metallic wires as Invisalign uses the aligner system instead of the traditional metal wire and bracket systems. Since you can remove the aligner when you want to eat, you can easily floss, brush and clean your mouth to prevent tooth decay, gum diseases, cavities and bacteria.

  • You can smile confidently and avoid cardiovascular diseases.

Invisalign are inconspicuous so you can confidently smile and have conversations anywhere without feeling embarrassed. When you get to smile without hesitation, it helps improve your oral health.

  • Less anxiety

Smiling often because you have nothing to worry about makes you less anxious. Some researches support this fact. The research found that smiling, even a forced smile triggers the brain and reduces anxiety.

rating star iconI was searching for a dentist to do implants treatment. visited Dental Implant London and when I visited the clinic, I found they are so caring and supportive. The dentist explained me the entire process and suggested to stay calm during the treatment. Many thanks!

rating star iconI have had gum disease and as a result have lost quite a few of my teeth. I was coping okay with my upper teeth plate but when I lost my bottom teeth I decided to have implants because bottom dentures were much more difficult to manage. I’m now considering having the upper set replaced with dental implants as well.

Who can have Invisalign?

To know if you are suitable for any dental treatment, including that of Invisalign, you have to consult your dentist. However, people with the following dental issues can have Invisalign.

  • Crossbite

If you have a crossbite (one or more of your teeth on the upper jaw bite on the inside of the lower teeth), you can get Invisalign. This condition causes the misalignment of the upper and lower jaw leading to the degradation of the teeth, loss of bone and gum disease.

  • Gapped teeth

Those who have a gap between the teeth due to abnormal growth of the jawbone or lack of teeth can use Invisalign. The teeth around the gap tend to gradually shift into space, and this can cause periodontal and gum diseases.

  • Underbite

An underbite is caused by insufficient growth of the upper jaw or missing teeth on the upper jaw. This makes the lower jaw protrude to form an improper bite. Underbite prevents the front teeth from functioning properly and causes pain in the upper jaw.

  • Overbite

In an overbite, the upper jaw abnormally covers the lower jaw, which can cause wearing out of the lower teeth and gum disease.

  • Crowded teeth

When the space in the upper and lower jaw is insufficient to fit the teeth, the teeth become crowded, and this can lead to having crooked teeth. Cleaning the teeth becomes difficult, which may lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and plaque.

  • Open bite

This type of malocclusion occurs when some of the teeth on the upper and lower jaw do not meet. This can be caused by some genetic conditions, but poor chewing habits and excessively sucking the thumb may also be responsible.

Steps for Invisalign treatment

  • Step 1: This treatment starts with a consultation with an Invisalign dentist to check if you are the right candidate for the treatment.
  • Step 2: The Invisalign dentist will create a personalised treatment plan for you and design a computer model of your procedure.
  • Step 3: Once your treatment plan is approved, photographs and the impression of your teeth would be taken. The photograph and impression would be sent to an Invisalign lab where your aligners will be made.
  • Step 4: Your custom-made aligners will be manufactured using our dental impressions as a template.
  • Step 5: Your aligners will be designed with precision so your treatment can be effective.
  • Step 6: Your aligners will be fitted in the clinic.
  • Step 7: Your dentist will advise you on what to do for your treatment to be effective. This will include wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours daily until your treatment is completed.
  • Step 8: You would visit your dentist at 4 – 6-week intervals until your teeth shift to their new position to check your progress. During your treatments, your dentist will make any necessary changes.

Invisalign treatment usually takes an average of 6 – 18 months. Your treatment time may be shorter or extended, depending on the complexity of your case. Your dentist will tell you how long your treatment will last during your consultation. Your dentist will also show you how your teeth will look at the end of your treatment using 3D technology.

Difference between Invisalign and traditional braces

Invisalign aligners are made to exert the right amount of pressure to move the teeth while offering a discreet option, unlike traditional metal braces that are visible. Invisalign aligners are transparent, so you do not have to worry about anyone noticing you are carrying out a dental treatment.

Invisalign takes away the stress of cleaning the teeth because you can always remove them to clean your teeth, unlike traditional braces where food can get stuck to the metallic braces which makes you more prone to the risk of tooth decay and other conditions.

FAQs on Invisalign

Invisalign aligners are transparent and virtually Invisible. Your friends, family, and anyone you speak to would hardly notice that you have them on.

After fitting your aligners for the first time, you may notice slight lisping, but you would get used to your aligners within a few days, and your speech would return to normal.

Invisalign aligners are more comfortable and easy to use than traditional braces. Invisalign does not use the bracket and wire system, so they offer more comfort and are convenient.

The duration of wearing your aligners depends on your case. Depending on the complexity of your misalignment, you may be offered small tooth-coloured buttons to help move the teeth faster.

If you misplace your aligner, inform your dentist as soon as possible but make use of an aligner from your previous set to prevent your teeth from moving back to the previous position.

Invisalign aligners are made of transparent poly-crystalline alumina or TPA. These materials ensure that Invisalign is transparent and smooth.

You would need to wear either fixed or removable retainers to prevent your teeth from gradually moving back to its former position.
